Two hard working girls...

Hi friends,
Today was an exhausting but successful day! It started very early in the morning as we were supposed to meet the youth group at 7 am to start digging the holes for the fence. They only started turning up at around 8am (but hey – the sunrise is really nice!)

"Enjoying" the sunrise
Luckily enough, about 6 people showed up (with digging tools for four people) to support us.  However, even with bare hands we managed to dig one hole (for the pride), then we left the remaining once for the equipped resources and moved on to a more “fun” activity: daub cow dunk!
Digging a hole...
People here use the cow dunk to spread it all over the floor, it will keep the latter dust free – or at least that’s what it`s supposed to do and with that no flees are coming in the building. So we were not only “smelling” very nice after digging a hole – no – we got another really nice smell on us that remained almost the whole day.. As always after a day is over, we are more than happy to take (even a cold) shower :)

Mmmhhh, cow dunk!
While men were happily digging the holes, we started repairing the school furniture.  A few nails can do miracles! But soon after starting, one of the man took over “this is not for girls…”.
Repairing school furniture

Oh well, it was quite amazing to see how many men gather around us when we start an activity… We serve as perfect motivators…  Also proved by the fact that at the end of the day the fence was up even though it was supposed to take four days… (Well, it might have speeded things up to run after them threatening them with cow-dunk-hands…).

We made it! A school fence!
Back home (and after the longest shower ever!) we got shown how to hand wash your cloth. It’s easy: fill up a (dirty) big bowl with (brown) tab water, add the first piece of cloth, observe how the color of the water turns black, add remaining cloths and a spoon full of washing powder. Pray.

Praying for the dirt to get off...
We are heading of for dinner soon. Hopefully, it’s no chicken. The one we had yesterday really killed the appetite to it chicken again. Lucky enough, we only discovered the head, crawls and the inner organs after finishing our piece of chicken…(however, nothing of the chicken was left over...)

  1. Lala Salama, you deserve a long rest. Fantastic news about the fence poles and repairing the furniture. I have a feeling you gals are going to leave a lot of stories behind about strong women with kickass attitudes.

  4. A big thanks for all your positive comments! It really helps us here in Nowheresland to feel all the support from back home!
@ Lia: we are really trying to teach the women about being strong. It's quite shocking what some of the women are treated by men... (e.g., an elderly lady sleeping on the floor while the husband sleeps in the bed with his younger second wife in the same room!)
